Optical Laboratory Technician
Duties
and Responsibilities:
Optical
laboratory technicians create prescription lenses based on what is recommended
by the ophthalmologists or optometrists. They use lens grinding machines to
polish and smooth out the eyeglass lens. They then put the lenses into the
eyeglass frames. Some optical laboratory technicians work with ophthalmologists
or optometrists others work in department stores that sell prescription glasses
Salary: $15,000 - $20,000
Education: You are required to have a high
school diploma or GED. Then there is a 6 months to a year program offered by
vocational schools or community colleges. Some of these retail stores offer on
the job training.
I
would not like to become an optical laboratory technician because it does not
interest me.
